What is COACHE?

Collaborative on Academic Careers in Higher Education (COACHE) is a research-practice partnership within the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

It is dedicated to the discovery of and insight into the postsecondary faculty experience.

What will be discussed in the six-series COACHE podcast?

The topics will focus on the opportunities and challenges for campus leaders in leading change. Using COACHE survey results and other data sources, I will talk with speakers about specific aspects of change. We hope to identify practical and successful approaches to leading change that can be used at your institution.

Topics could include things like:

  • Getting ready for a change initiative
  • Dealing with resistance
  • Making difficult choices as part of a change process
  • Enabling change at multiple levels
  • Appreciation and recognition

Why am I involved?

I am involved with the COACHE podcast due to my more than a decade of experience as Provost at both a large public university and a medium-sized private university. I also have prior work experience with the Harvard COACHE program, being a faculty fellow in 2020-2021. During this time, after interviewing current and former Provosts about change leadership, I wrote a paper summarizing what I learned. The paper is avialable under the Resources tab.

Podcast format:

  • Monthly
  • Duration: 30 minutes
  • Target audience: COACHE network of partners and stakeholders, higher education leadership and administrators, aspiring leadership and broad faculty

The podcast will be available on Google Play and on the App Store.
